Here you will find an extensive gallery of smiles that have been transformed following orthodontic care provided by our specialist orthodontists
Crowding
Dental crowding is the term used to described teeth that are maligned due to a shortage of space in the upper and lower dental arches
Crowding
Dental crowding is the term used to described teeth that are maligned due to a shortage of space in the upper and lower dental arches
CROWDING EXAMPLES
This patient had crowding of the upper and lower front teeth. In addition, her upper lateral incisors (2nd tooth from the middle) were positioned behind her lower front teeth, which is called a crossbite. Untreated crossbites can contribute to tooth wear and shortening of the teeth.
With orthodontic treatment her crowding and crossbites were resolved, her teeth were aligned and an ideal bite established. She was provided with a beautiful smile and optimal function.

Deep Overbite
In an individual has a deep overbite when the upper front teeth overlap the lower front teeth by a large amount
Deep Overbite

DEEP OVERBITE EXAMPLES
This young lady sought orthodontic treatment to correct the space between her front teeth.
Orthodontic treatment corrected the space between her upper front teeth.
This center photo of her teeth shows increased overlap between the upper and lower front teeth (deep overbite) and a space between her upper central incisors (midline diastema). There has also been significant wear to the edges of her upper central incisors (middle teeth).
Her orthodontic treatment was performed with upper and lower braces. Her deep overbite has been reduced and the space between her upper front teeth is closed. Following orthodontic treatment her dentist placed small restorations (fillings) on her upper central incisors (middle teeth) to repair her worn incisal edges.

This patient’s upper and lower front teeth overlap each other by a large amount, which is called a deep overbite. In the long term, a deep overbite can contribute to premature wear and shortening of the front teeth. In addition, a deep overbite can sometimes result in gum recession.
This patient’s deep overbite was corrected over a two year period with upper and lower braces.
The side view of her bite demonstrates the severity of her deep overbite and the backwards slant of her upper and lower front teeth.
This side view of her bite shows how orthodontic treatment corrected her overbite and improved the angle of her upper and lower front teeth. After orthodontic treatment, her upper and lower back teeth meet together in the ideal position.
This young lady wanted her upper teeth straightened and the space between her front teeth closed.
After orthodontic treatment her teeth are straight without spacing and she has a great smile.
This centre photo of her teeth also shows that her upper and lower front teeth overlap by a large amount, which is called a deep overbite. In fact, you can see that her lower teeth bite against the gum tissue on the roof of the mouth, which can sometimes lead to gum recession with time.
Her bite has been corrected and her teeth straightened with orthodontic treatment.
Impacted Canines
When a canine is preventing from erupting normally by hard or soft tissue it is called an impacted canine
Impacted Canines
When a canine is preventing from erupting normally by hard or soft tissue it is called an impacted canine
IMPACTED CANINES EXAMPLES
This young man was referred to our practice by his dentist for the alignment of his impacted upper adult canines. It is not immediately obvious, but his upper canines (3rd tooth from the middle) are deciduous teeth (milk teeth) and are not adult canines.
With orthodontic treatment his upper adult canines have been aligned, his teeth are straight, his bite corrected and the spaces between his front teeth closed.
This x-ray shows that his upper adult canines are positioned high in the upper jaw bone and overlap the roots of his upper incisors before orthodontic treatment.
This mid-treatment radio graph shows that his upper adult canine position has been corrected.
This centre photo shows that he had an increased overbite (increased overlap of the front teeth), spacing between his upper front teeth and over-retained upper decidous canines (3rd tooth from the middle).
After orthodontic treatment his bite has been corrected and his adult canines have been aligned.
The side view of his bite shows that his upper front teeth are forward of his lower front teeth by an increased amount, which is called an increased over jet. You can also see that his upper deciduous canine has worn down a significant amount and does not have a very good long term prognosis.
This side view of his bite after orthodontic treatment shows that his over-retained deciduous canine has now been replaced with his adult upper canine (tooth is centre of the photo). His upper adult canine will provide better function and last a life time.
Interceptive Treatment Crossbite
Interceptive treatment is provided at a younger age (less than 10 years of age) if this treatment will prevent irreversible damage to the permanent teeth or prevent impacted teeth or reduce an individual's treatment needs during the teenage years

INTERCEPTIVE TREATMENT CROSSBITE EXAMPLES
This seven year old child was referred to our practice by his school dental therapist regarding a crossbite. His upper right central incisor (middle tooth) is tucked behind the lower front teeth, which is called a crossbite. An adult tooth in a crossbite relationship can wear down prematurely with time.
Orthodontic treatment corrected his crossbite, which will prevent irreversible damage to the enamel on his tooth. We do not often provide orthodontic treatment on a patient this young, but early interceptive orthodontic treatment was beneficial in this case.
Large Overjet
A large overjet is when the upper front teeth are a long way forward of the lower front teeth. There are a number of underlying causes of a large overjet, which will be determined on your first visit

LARGE OVERJET EXAMPLES
This young lady did not like her protrusive upper front teeth.
After orthodontic treatment
This profile photo shows that her lower jaw and chin were positioned further back before treatment.
This profile photo shows that her lower jaw and chin moved forward with natural growth of the lower jaw during her adolescent growth spurt.
Before orthodontic treatment her upper and lower front teeth overlapped more than normal, which is called an increased overbite. In addition, she has spaces between her upper front teeth and the middle of her upper and lower front teeth do not match.

This side view of her bite shows that her upper front teeth are a long way forward of her lower front teeth, which is called a large overjet.

This patient’s parents were concerned about their daughters protrusive upper incisors.

This center photo of her teeth shows that her upper front teeth overlap her lower front teeth by a large amount, which is called a deep overbite. Her upper arch appears to be wider than her lower arch.
After orthodontic treatment.
Before orthodontic treatment her upper front teeth were a long way forward of her lower front teeth, which is called a large overjet. And her upper back teeth overlapped her lower back teeth by a long way, which is called a scissor bite.
